It manufactures steel products like India’s longest rail tracks, construction materials, railway sleepers, heavy steel plates, wire rods etc. Awarded with Prime Minister's Trophy for best Integrated Steel Plant in the country for eleven times, and several other accreditations including ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System Standard, IS0:14001 for Environment Management System, SA: 8000 certification for social accountability, OHSAS-18001 certification for Occupational safety, CII-ITC Sustainability award and many more, this plant plays a pivotal role in the economic as well as industrial development of Bhilai city. Constructed with the objective of providing employment to the rural and tribal population in Chhattisgarh, the Bhilai Steel Plant employs 55, 000 permanent workers and is one of the most profitable industries in the public sector of India.
